Salvadorian diaspora between two dictators: Bukele and Trump
My latest op-ed trying to make sense of the "salvi vote"
Dear mi gente,
I was asked by the El Salvador-based feminist publication Alharaca to give my hot takes on the Salvadorian-American vote following the U.S. elections. Every year, the “Latino vote” conversation is a hot ass mess — we know this. But I think there’s a lot of dots to connect with the global rise of facism and the links between Bukele and Trump. You can read it in both English and Spanish.
Also, I know of you are going to go see your family and eat some pan con chumpipe. Let this be fodder to argue with your creepy tío who has brainrotted from watching too much pro-Bukele conspiracy theories on YouTube. Or, don’t — protect your peace cipotx!
English: Between Two Autocrats: Salvadoran Diaspora Grapples with Trump and Bukele
Spanish: Entre dos autócratas: la diáspora salvadoreña ante Bukele y Trump
On a personal note, I’m really grateful for all of your support throughout the years. I know I’ve been kinda of MIA for a while, but 2025 looks like it’s going to be a beast and I’m not going away. I’ll be screaming into the void a little louder again because this world is still a trash can.
XOXO
