Free Fidel Zavala in El Salvador
The Repression of Human Rights and Land Defenders in El Salvador is Escalating
Last week, human rights defender Fidel Zavala was arrested after publicly speaking out against the imprisonment of land defenders from the La Floresta Community in La Libertad. This week, he is being transferred to a maximum-security prison. This is not the first time he has been targeted by the Bukele regime — he was previously held for 13 months but was released and found innocent. Given what we know about the dictatorship, it is reasonable to believe that he is at risk of torture.
Amnesty International has issued a call to action to raise awareness and demand freedom for Fidel Zavala and other political prisoners.
