Watch Me Speak to Al Jazeera about El Salvador's Gang War
Al Jazeera's The Stream program invited me to speak on El Salvador's State of Exception.
¡Hola mi gente!
Apologies for the lack of updates – I’ve been getting my life together since the layoff! Expect regular updates from now on.
I want to share my latest appearance on Al Jazeera’s The Stream with Femi Oke alongside guests Tiziano Breda (International Crisis Group) and Tamara Taraciuk (Human Rights Watch). We talked about President Bukele extended state of exception in El Salvadfor AKA his personal gang war that is arbitrarily jailing many people, including children as young as 12.
Here’s a quote by me:
A lot of human rights abuses are being alleged. It is concerning for a lot of us who are Salvadorans. Who have family back in El Salvador. We are a transnational people. What happens in El Salvador has a direct effect out here. A lot of the migration waves has been because of this gang violence for decades.

P.S. I’m already working on the next post which will feature a little-known act of solidarity from a Caribbean country that saved lives during the Salvadoran Civil War.
Saludes,
Dannny
